History in English
Air Base No. 17 Copalar, is located in San Antonio Township Copalar in Comitan , Chiapas , Mexico .
Formerly civilian airport Comitan, but was closed to civil aviation due to low demand from users. It has a runway of 1.80 kilometers.
In year 2004 the Airport ceased civilian operations becoming Copalar No.17 Air Base.
It is expected that future Comitan Airport reopens its doors to the public with the arrival of the airline Aerotucan , which will operate the route Comitan - Tuxtla Gutierrez and Comitan - San Cristobal de las Casas .
Created, like many others, in response to the Zapatista uprising, military base plays Copalar special features. Its function is to keep the door open to the Lacandona Jungle for operating large "fast" and highly specialized on the glens and mountains of Las Margaritas. Headquarters 91 Infantry Battalion of the 39th Military Zone, and federal Army air base, occasionally works as a civil airport (alternate to that of San Cristobal de las Casas , which in turn serves as the headquarters of Rancho Nuevo).
